Representations within our chosen genre...

Who or what is being represented?
Is this a stereotypical representation?
Is it a postive or negative representation?
What representation are you planning to conform to or challenge in your video?

After analysing an alternative pop video "Breathe" by Delilah we have found that gender is being represented. In this video we can see the representation of the female being an object. This is very sterotypical as the woman is seen as passive and vulnerable especially in this video as she shows emotion of being upset and lonely. The male also conforms to the typical sterotype as being the dominant character. In this video we see him wearing gangsta like clothing for example his hoodie is up and wearing baggy jeans. Throughout this music video the male is seen out with his friends whereas the woman seems to be trapped inside their flat by herself. The video shows a negative representation of men as we can see through the male character being aggresive towards the female character, for example yelling into her face. We are also shown that he has blood on his clothing suggesting that he has been involved in violence, highlighting the negative representation in men.

In our music video we plan to conform to the sterotypical representations of men and woman as we want the female character to be shown as the object and the male as the dominant figure. We can show this by aggressive behaviour through the male character towards the female and this is also conforming to the negative representation of men like the music videos by Deliliah. By the end of our own music video we want to portray a shift  in representation from a sterotypical representation of the female character to a counter typical representation. We are going to do this by showing the woman taking control of the situation.
