Textual Analysis of Music Videos 2

I will be analysing a music video directed by Jake Nava who has previously worked with the likes of Beyonce and Kanye West. The Video I have chosen to analyse is 'Inside My Love' by Delilah, which is within the genre of Alternative Pop. We can tell that this is the genre of the music video as the slow music works with the movements of the artist and the male character shown, which are very slow and steady. This is a genre characteristic of Alternative Pop.

We can see throughout the video that the lyrics of the song are amplified by the visuals. An example of this is when she is singing 'Two people just meeting, barely touching eachother' and then we are shown two people on screen who are in different areas of the room. They then slowly make their way towards one another, which gives us the idea that they don't know each other, which matches the lyrics of the song. We then see the two people starting to touch each other but not too much as they start doing exagerated movements and positions, this amplifys the lyrics of when it says 'barely touching eachother'.

The beginning of the song starts off slow and mysterious with a solo instrumental which is illustrated by the visuals, as nothing is happening on screen. As the characters start to move, the pace of the song picks up and slowly gets faster, in time with the visuals on screen. An example of this is when the man climbs over her and starts to roll around her, as their actions get bigger the music gets fasters but remains in time with them. Therefore the music in this video is parallel to the visuals.

After researching into other Delilah music videos, I discovered that she is fashionable as she wears stylish clothing in all her videos, although in this particular video she does not. In Delilah's other video's we see a lot of examples of direct address although there aren't any examples of this in this particular video but she is still miming the lyrics like in every other video. She is usually the main focus and uses a lot of slow motion editing, which shows us that they all relate to eachother as they represent a similar image. Delilah's video's usually involve a lot of close up's of herself where as we are only shown a couple examples of a close up in this video, which challenges the codes and conventions of an Alternative Pop music video. In these shots we also are able to see her tatoo's, they aren't usual tattoo's you would see on a woman, which tell us that she may like to stand out and is unique.

The artist is on a bed dressed in small clothing where she is dancing with a man who is also not fully dressed. The way they are dancing and touching tell us that the artist and the character in this video are on sexual display. An example of this is when the man pulls the artist from her legs into him and their bodys touch, showing sexual tension. These features may have been chosen to match the lyrics and music or to create sex appeal.

There are no examples of intertextual reference in the video for 'Inside My Love'. Although this video does relate to some of Delilahs other music videos as they are usually concept/narrative based. This video is a concept based video as for the whole duration of the video, we are shown a relationship between 2 people through contemporary dance. There is no narrative or performance included in this video.

By analysing this video and looking at some other music videos from Delilah, I can see that she sticks to the same type of video. Most of her videos are concept  based. She uses similar ideas and editing techniques in all of her videos such as slow motion and the concept of a relationship. This gives Delilah her own signature style.
