What level do you think they received and why?
After watching this music video I think it is evident that they would have received top marks for this music video between level 3-4. The reason for this is because it is a very eye thrilling video, the short shot duration makes it not boring and keeps the audience wanting to watch more. This past student has clearly used key codes and conventions of the pop genre which also adds to why I think the student received a high grade.
The camera work is a big factor on one of the reasons I think it received a high level grade. The student has used various camera angles, shots and movements. This allows the audience to watch the scene at all different angles and shot takes, making the music video fun to watch. The extreme close ups show great emphasis lips highlighting the movement illustrating the lyrics to the song. The long shots show the group of girls dancing in sync which is also a key convention to pop music. The high angles of the camera allow the audience to watch from a different aspect of the room, again, creating interest to the audience eye. I also like that fact that there are extreme close ups of the people playing the instruments, it adds a more variety of camera shots. Also each shot is no longer that 5 seconds which makes the video intensifying and thrilling to watch. Looking at the marking criteria it is clear that they have used 'various camera angles and camera shots' therefore I believe the camera work would be a level 4.
The mise en scene is good but I think it could have been improved by adding different locations instead of the whole music video being filmed in one room throughout the track. However, the different use of lighting and the use of UV paint adds extra volume to the music video making it fun to watch, and a key concept of a music video is making it eye grabbing.
I think analysing this past student work will give the group and I ideas on how to make our music video as eye grabbing and exiting to watch. Analysing the different camera angles and mise en scene has highlighted that it is a very important factor to our music video and we should make it the best it can possibly be.
